Ghana loses Bellarabi to Germany, as Loew invites him for Euro matches

first_imgGerman born Ghanaian Karim Bellarabi has been invited by Brazil 2014 winning  German coach Joachim Loew for the upcoming European Championship qualifying matches against Poland and Ireland. The Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder was born in Berlin but was also eligible to play for Ghana and Morocco because his father is a Ghanaian and his mother a Moroccan.Efforts by the Ghana FA to lure the youngster proved futile over the years and if he gets to play any of the lineup matches he then cements his nationality as a German.Bellarabi is enjoying a breakthrough season and Loew says he is an “excellent option for our attack.”Defender Mats Hummels returns, along with 15 other players who won the World Cup title in Brazil.Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Benedikt Hoewedes, Marco Reus and Mario Gomez are all out with injuries and Kevin Grosskreutz was dropped. Women’s Month gets under way

first_img1 August 2014South Africa’s national Women’s Month, which got under way on Thursday, will see the launch of a new women’s housing project, a new mobile application for pregnant women, and the start of construction on a centre of remembrance for Sara Baartman.Speaking to journalists in Pretoria on Thursday, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women Susan Shabangu said women from across the continent and the Diaspora would come together this month to launch the Pan African Women’s Organisation. On Monday, she said, the Department of Human Settlements will launch its annual Women’s Build Project, which will see the building of almost 2 000 houses in each province. And on 21 August, the Department of Health will launch a mobile phone based application called MomConnect, which will register pregnant women across the country in order to assist them through pregnancy and child birth.Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, also addressing journalists on Thursday, announced that a centre of remembrance for Sara Baartman – a Khoi woman who was displayed as a sideshow attraction in 19th century Europe under the name “Hottentot Venus” – would be built in the Eastern Cape.Mthethwa said the story of South Africa’s liberation could be told without sharing the story of people like Sarah Baartman. “People must know them as they know other leaders of women, who contributed much earlier than the 1950s,” he said.On 9 August, national Women’s Day, President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address during the main national celebration in KwaZulu-Natal, where various South African artists will feature on a cultural programme honouring the resilience of women.Shabangu said that August was a special month for South African men and women alike. “On 9 August, we remember and celebrate the resilience and vanguard of our women in fighting institutional racism and apartheid oppression,” she said.“This is not an ordinary public holiday – this is a day that has its roots in the committed and principled political activism of women who defied their personal circumstances to take up their rightful place in the struggle for freedom.”Source: read more

first_imgI’m a young man of twentyseven years. I’m concerned citizen who hails from The Eastern Cape but I’m in gauteng. As I was watching the world and our country fighting against xenophobia it came to my concern that why cnt I start my organisation in helping the government to fight this campaign of fighting this underage/illegal circumcision in our beautiful country as it is getting out of hand. The department is doing its best but it’s still extending so it’s my wish to play my part and work with the government as an overlooker whenever it’s being performed around the country. So I’m pleading with this organisation and the health department to help me play my part in our beatiful country as our brothers are dying every season. Are You a Caregiver?

first_imgThe term ‘caregiver’ can be defined as an individual that provides care, whether it is paid or unpaid, to someone with an impairment. However, when we hear the term ‘caregiver’ our thoughts are immediately drawn to the idea of caring for an aging adult. The term may be hard to accept, especially if you are caring for a younger adult…say from the military perhaps. As a military spouse or family member caring for your wounded service member, the term ‘caregiver’ may not even cross your mind. You assume as spouse or family member that it is just part of caring for the individual you love. In reality, we are all caregivers at some point in our life – caring for our children, parent, spouse or friend. In the video below Michael Roos, Military Family Life Counselor at Joint Base Lewis McChord, explains his thoughts on the term ‘caregiver.’ Listen to the video below and how his comments may relate to your personal experience. How do you define ‘caregiving?’ Do you consider yourself a caregiver? For military spouses, families or friends caring for wounded, ill and injured service members, it is important to understand that you are now taking on a new role as ‘Military Caregiver.’ While you may not see yourself as a caregiver, it is important to identify yourself in this role in order to understand specific education and information related to your service member’s injury or condition and how it may affect you.So I ask the question again – How do you define ‘caregiving?’ Do you consider yourself a caregiver? This post was published on the Military Families Learning Network blog on October 28, 2014.last_img read more

Patiala House: Will it be a Patiala peg for Akshay Kumar?

first_imgAkshay Kumar, the highest tax payer in Bollywood, is trying hard to retain the top slot as in the recent past none of his films have worked wonders at box-office.Now, Akshay is leaving no stone unturned to make his upcoming film Patiala House a success. From appearing on reality shows to giving 5-minute appearances in local shopping malls, Akshay is doing everything to make Patiala House a hit.As per the promotion strategy, Akshay along with the star cast of Patiala House is reaching out to the mass audience. The film is being heavily promoted in North especially Punjab and Haryana. Even the premiere of the film is being held in Patiala.Akshay Kumar reinvented himself and became a comedy-action hero by delivering hits like Hera Pheri, Namastey London, Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Singh Is Kinng. But his charm couldn’t work for long. Just after Singh Is Kinng, Akshay did Chandni Chowk to China with Warner Brothers in 2009. The film also starred Deepika Padukone. Somehow the film didn’t get the affection of viewers. After Chandni Chowk to China, back to back films like 8 x 10 Tasveer, Kambakkht Ishq, Blue and Priyadarshan’s De Dana Dan failed on Box-Office in 2009. Even his hot chemistry with Katrina couldn’t do much for De Dana Dan.In 2010, Akshay appeared in Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer Housefull that according to reports garnered the second-highest opening weekend collection of all time.Akshay was also seen in Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha, which turned out to be an average grosser. His much-hyped film with Aishwarya Rai Action Replay was a box-office dud.advertisementNow, it is to be seen if Akshay succeeds in making Patiala House a commercial hit. We wish him luck!last_img read more
